CG animator Akira Suzuki (Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, live-action Attack on Titan, Blue Submarine No. 6) launched on December 22 a Kickstarter campaign for Horror of the Underworld, his 3D CG horror project. Suzuki is handling all aspects of the project including direction, animation, and video production.
Suzuki is streaming a trailer for his project:
The project seeks to raise 17 million yen (about US$150,904) by January 26 to fund a 25-minute anime voiced in Japanese with English subtitles. Production is scheduled to take 16 months, and the project will ship on DVD if the campaign is successful. As of press time the campaign has raised 111,500 yen (about US$989).
If the project hits the stretch goal of 20 million (about US$175,366), the project will have a Blu-ray Disc release instead of a DVD release. At 50 million yen (about US$438,415), Suzuki will lengthen the episode by 15 minutes. If the project raises 100 million yen (about US$876,831), Suzuki will lengthen the movie to over an hour long. Suzuki noted the production time will be longer if the latter two stretch goals are met.
The backer rewards listed include a thank you email, the original soundtrack, a stream of the completed animation, a DVD recording, storyboard and design documents, additional collectable cards, three T-shirt styles, the backer's voice used in the project, an opening credit for the backer, and dinner with Suzuki.
