Viz's Shonen Jump to Preview Lycopene the Tomatoy Poodle Manga
posted on by Karen Ressler
Viz Media's English digital edition of Weekly Shonen Jump announced on Monday that it will publish the first chapter of Kōji Ōishi's Lycopene the Tomatoy Poodle (Tomtatoipu no Rikopin) in next week's issue on October 9. The manga will launch on October 7 in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump in Japan.
The title is part of the "Jump Start" initiative, where Viz Media's Shonen Jump publishes the first three chapters of a new manga simultaneously with the Japanese release. Viz Media has not yet confirmed whether it will preview Genki Ono's Full Drive or Kagen Ōsu's Golem Hearts, the two other manga that will debut in the Japanese version of the magazine this month.
Ōishi previously published a one-shot titled "Tomtatoipu no Rikopin" in Weekly Shonen Jump last December. The manga's story is set in a world named Cuteopia, filled with cute things, and centers on Lycopene, a toy poodle born from a tomato.
Ōishi (Maison de Penguin) launched the Inumarudashi— gag manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2008, and ended it in June 2012. Shueisha published 11 compiled book volumes for the manga. Inumarudashi— inspired a Vomic (sequence of still frames from the manga with voices added) project and a Flash anime project.
