AKB48 idol group member and general director Minami Takahashi confirmed in a message through the 755 chat service app on Saturday that she makes a minor appearance as a soldier in the first live-action Attack on Titan film.
A fan who saw Takahashi's name in the film's credits asked her through 755, and she replied, "Yes, it's me." She also revealed that she had to dye her hair black for the filming.
Takahashi announced last December 8 that she will be graduating from AKB48 exactly one year later, on December 8, 2015. Yui Yokoyama will replace Takahashi as the general director.
Takahashi previously played a small role in Dragon Ball Z Kai.
The first of two live-action Attack on Titan films opened on 427 screens across Japan on Saturday. The second movie, Attack on Titan: End of the World, will open on September 19.
Funimation hosted the world premiere of the first film in Hollywood last month. Funimation's license includes theatrical, video-on-demand, home video, and broadcast rights, and the company plans to release the first film in American theaters this fall.
Hajime Isayama's original Attack on Titan manga depicts the battles between humans and the giants who now rule the world outside humans' walled enclaves.
