Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, Lost Planet 3 Developer Spark Unlimited Shuts Down
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
California-based video game developer Spark Unlimited announced via a statement to video game news website IGN that it has shut down. The statement reads:
Yes, Spark Unlimited is closing as a video game developer. The ongoing opportunities for smaller mobile development doesn't service the needs nor desires of Spark as an entity. As such, Spark as we know will cease operations with various splinter efforts focusing on some new dynamic projects inside and outside of game development.
The company was founded in 2002, and has since developed Lost Planet 3, Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, Legendary, Turning Point: Fall of Liberty, and Call of Duty: Finest Hour.
The CMA Auctions website began auctioning off the company's remaining assets on May 1.
Spark Unlimited developed Lost Planet 3 for CAMCOM with series creator Kenji Oguro, who directed the game. The game shipped in North America and Europe in August 2013. CAPCOM had developed the previous games in the series.
Spark Unlimited also collaborated with Keiji Inafune (Rockman/Megaman, Mighty No.9) and Team Ninja (Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive series) to create Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z. The game shipped in Japan, Europe, and North America in March 2014.
