Mainichi Shimbun reported the passing of actor Kinya Aikawa (birth name Toshiaki Igawa) on Thursday. He was 80.
Aikawa began his career as an actor dubbing foreign films, notably roles played by Jack Lemmon. In addition to numerous television, film, and radio roles, Aikawa voiced anime characters such as Masked Racer/Kenichi Mifune (Racer X/Rex Racer) in Speed Racer, Kame Sennin (Master Roshi) in Dragon Ball Movie 4: The Path to Power, and Nyanko-sensei in Inakappe Taisho.
In his later years he opened a theatrical troupe to train younger actors, and in 2010 he invested money into the Tokyo playhouse and movie theater "Kinkero Theater." This theater draws its name from his nickname "Kinkin" and his wife Midori Utsumi's nickname "Keronpa."
The date of the funeral service has not yet been decided.
