Female-Centric Doujinshi Vendor Meikido Closes Service
posted on by Kim Morrissy
The female-centric second-hand doujinshi vendor Meikido announced on its website on Monday that it was closing service indefinitely. It cited "declining sales due to competition and a shrinking market" as the cause behind its closure. A few employees remain to file for bankruptcy in the Hiroshima district court.
The Hiroshima-based company was first established in 1993 and had branches in Osaka, Nagoya, Ikebukuro, Fukuoka, and elsewhere. It also functioned as a mail-order service. According to Tokyo Shoko Research, Meikido was making over 700 million yen (US$6.5 million) worth of sales in 2012, but it suffered declining sales over recent years. Last year, it closed its Ikebukuro branch.
