posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Sayo Yamamoto and MAPPA's hit anime series Yuri!!! on Ice has made an impression outside of its female fanbase, resonating with professional figure skaters and the ice skating world as a whole. The popularity it's brought to the sport can be summed up as immense. An immediate example is the "Yuri!!! on Ice ~Figure Skate o 100-Bai Tanoshimu Shūchū Kōgi~" event with figure-skating choreographer Kenji Miyamoto and skater Akiko Suzuki. The event demand was so high that it expanded to include live-streaming in 48 theaters and online.
Hoping to attract fans of the show that are hungry for more men's figure-skating is a new manga anthology. BOYS on Ice: Figure Danshi Anthology depicts stories surrounding men's figure skating like a handsome boy who wants to perform as a girl, a boy who admires the triple axel, a prodigy who can't pull of his jumps, and more.
The anthology went on sale on Thursday and costs 800 yen (US$7.30), however it is already out of stock at Amazon Japan.
Participating artists include: Utakata, Meme Ōda, Kana, Kanataka, Satchan, Nazuna Shiraume, 298, and Umi Harano. The cover was drawn by Ame Karasuba.
