I think they only used it once maybe this episode? We got like a whole 5 minutes of animation of something. Though animating people playing musical instruments is apparently super hard, so we didn't get that. I do still like the characters. There's space in my schedule for a bunch of sweet-but-useless failing forward. Even if it is minimally animated.... the static stuff looks nice most of the time. |

Looking at the credits, the animation was once again entirely outsourced. But at least this time it was to the kind of studio that actually credits its artists so while still full of wonky shots it had several good looking stills and wasn't the complete production meltdown of last episode.

I'm... very confused about how the subject of Himari and Yori having sex even came up while discussing this episode. Especially because there was no ambiguity or double-meaning in Aki's words, she went straight to the point: She is afraid Yori is being made to wait only to end up rejected in the end, that is, not receiving any intimancy from Himari.
Honestly, it sounds like the reviewer's mind is several steps ahead of the minds of anyone in the cast. |

Probably because when Hikari asked her friend (Aki’s little sister) about love, the answer involved kissing and hugging, so that’s what Hikari was thinking about. Not sex, so much as physicality. Later, she gets an alternate theory from Momoka (“someone you want to cook for”), that is both more to her liking, and also an indication that love comes in lots of forms. |

Yes, sex never factored into my thinking - physical intimacy can just be kissing and hugging, especially depending on cultural norms. Himari's reaction to being told that wanting to kiss and hug someone as a measure of love seemed to freak her out, while Momoka's definition felt more comfortable to her, which is what I was trying to describe. |

Yes, exactly. Aki's sister is the one who said that. Aki herself never said anything of the sort. |

I think misunderstanding comes from too strong interpretation what "sexual component" part was supposed to mean. I'm very happy for Momoka's advice, it was so nice to hear it! |

I thought there was a lot of expressive animation in episode 6, but I’ve never been that critical of the animation techniques employed on this show — they make great use of Eku Takeshima’s art and imagery.
Happy to have the relationship move to the next stage, and now we have Shiho to bring a little salt to cut through what would probably be pretty sappy, since this series has sensibly avoided the misunderstanding and miscommunication tropes common to this genre. Maybe not completely sappy — I really felt for Aki after the concert, though, as she realizes that just being in the friend-zone wasn’t enough. |

I've enjoyed the series immensely so far but really didn't like how they handled the love song this episode. After all the build up, and with how it was supposed to be the thing that made Hikari realize her feelings, it would have been nice to actually hear the song! I didn't like how it basically got drowned out by Yori's Internal monologuing, which in itself was essentially a story recap. To me, it would have been better if they let us, the audience, hear it alongside Hikari.

So, I found that distracting as well, with the monologue over a perfectly solid insert song, and part of me wonders if that was possibly done because Yori has separate VAs for her dialogue and her singing voice. That was the only thing I could think of because otherwise it doesn’t make much sense and throws the flow off.

I just played that scene twice, concentrating on the dialog or the lyrics as may be, but I agree that could have been handled better

My favourite part of episode was Himari stating the obvious: they already have such nice thing going on, their relationship doesn't have to suddenly change just because they are now "officially" going out with each other.
It's small thing, but really great and rarely mentioned - there doesn't need to be massive change of dynamics in relationship just because it was "upgraded" from friends to official pair. |

I think Rebecca completely misread what actually happened with Shiho in episode 7. For one, Shiho doesn't know Himari and Yori are dating; she doesn't even know they know each other. She's not confronting Aki with Aki's love for Yori to twist the knife in here; she's bitter that Aki fancies Yori in the first place.
It may be that she's just an elitist asshole and that's why she got thrown out of her other bands, but the way I read that situation it feels more like she was genuinely upset when Aki found her and she liked being in the band, no complaints until suddenly one day they were not good enough for her? Doubt. I think she had a crush on Aki and couldn't handle it when Aki was looking at Yori rather than her, that the only way she could deal with that was to quit. |

I thought about that interpretation, and it may well turn out to be true. But right now I feel like there's scant evidence (or at least, concrete evidence) for it, whereas we've heard her make disparaging remarks about other bands and her song lyrics go into similar feelings. She absolutely may be using that to cover up her romantic hurt, but I'm not sure that we're at that point yet. |

Silly easter egg that made me chuckle: the classic Meiji carton of milk おいしい牛乳 (oishii gyuunyuu) shows up again as ささやく牛乳 (sasayaku gyuunyuu), in a semi-title drop
